We see a dramatic collage in the signature comic influenced graphic style of a plane and funny and scary figures making all sorts of trouble.

'Antistrot came to be when several classmates at the Willem de Kooning Academy ( Rotterdam, Holland ) got fed up with boring artistic restrictions. They met up in a copyshop to make their first magazine in copy-and paste style, 'Antistrot'. The name of the magazine was derived from a teacher they particularly disliked. What was special about the magazine, was that it was devoid of any moral messages, and it's strong graphic style.

As a joke, members started to draw together. They sit around a table and paint on the same canvas in synchronicity. Ten years later, with most of it's members in their early thirties, we're still drawing and painting together in our 'sessions'. We literaly paint together. These 'sessions' are always fun filled events, and spawn a myriad of ideas. Some of them are translated into performances, other concepts can end up as Robotics. Influences on us are:

1) The Complete Saturation of images and emotions thru the modern media.
2) Street slang and other shenanigans.
3) Mockery of trends like 'Street' and 'Urban' and other clueless phenomena.
4) Our collective past and fantasies, our own shared world of imaginary and real persona and ideas, the Antistrot Mythos."

" In Berlin we made a large mural at the Maria am Ostbahnhofufer (feb. 2006) , also we did the opening performance 'Krebshunde" in collaboration with Jason Forrest. We made this mural and performance for the Transmediale festival. This year, one of our members, Paul, performed again at the Transmediale, under the name Yob Kiss. "

"ANTISTROT is a Rotterdam based artist collective. Johan Kleinjan, Paul Börchers, David Elshout, Silas Schletterer, Michiel Walrave and Bruno Ferro Xavier da Silva work simultaneously on the same drawing. During these Antistrot-sessions, the collective goes before the individual and the final result is secondary to the dynamic process of action and reaction, which occurs during the collaboration.
