Exposif Wallpaper Application Guidelines
(Enhanced Synthetic Adhesive Paper)
Working with big adhesive papers like this might seem tricky but in fact it is easier than traditional glue-on wallpaper. The strength of the synthetic adhesive paper gives chance to reposition the panels until they're mounted perfectly or to your satisfaction.
You will need:
- 2 people
- 1 ladder
- 1 spirit level
- 1 rubber roller (approximately 10 cm wide)
- 1 Stanley knife
- 1 pair scissors
- 1 long ruler
- Clean and dry hands
Before your start:
- Make sure the wall is completely flattened, using a spatula to scrape off any relief and fill in the holes using fine plaster or Polyfilla.
- Make sure the wall is completely free of grease by cleaning with St.Marcs (a wall-cleaning product) or similar.
- When the tube is opened you will find a small print indicating the order of the panels so you know which part goes where.
- Realise that the overlap of the panels, left and right, is 0.4 inches (1cm).
Application:
1. The easiest system for application is to start with the first left panel (panel 1) and work your way to the right. Check if the top of your wall is exactly horizontal by using a spirit level. If it is not, draw an exact horizontal line at the top of where you will place your first panel, so that you have a correct starting point.
2. Lay your first panel (panel 1) face down on a clean and flat surface. Peel down the top 4 inches (10cm) of the transparent backing and fold down so that 2 inches (5cm) of the adhesive back is exposed.
3. This is where you will need an assistant. Using your ladder to reach the necessary height, mount the first panel (panel 1) with the top edge of the exposed adhesive exactly on the drawn horizontal line. The panel is now stuck to the wall only by the 4 inch (10cm) exposed adhesive backing, with the remainder of panel hanging loosely off the wall. Stand back and double check the position. If positioned to satisfaction, your assistant should gently peel down the backing, while you rub the panel against the wall in a downwards motion, making sure no creases appear. If a crease appears gently pull back a bit and repeat. Use clean and hands to rub with.
4. With the second panel, repeat the action of peeling down 2 inches (5cm) of the transparent backing. Keeping in mind the overlap is 0.4 inches (1cm), place panel 2 next to the panel 1, making sure it is exactly horizontal and that the graphics fit. Stand back and double check the position. If hanging to satisfaction, repeat the actions as described above with your assistant.
5. Continue repeating the steps above with the remaining panels.
6. When you have finished all the panels, cut off all extra bits on the sides using your ruler and Stanley knife. Use a rubber roller to add pressure on all overlaps and corners to secure a good stick.
7. If air bubbles still remain, make a tiny cut using a fresh Stanley knife and roll out the air using the rubber roller. Tip: if you need to make a cut for air to escape, use the shapes in the design as a guideline, so the cuts become invisible.
